Here’s a follow-up to my earlier post on complimenting weblog comments with lighter ‘gestures’: while at it, I made another mock-up. It’s a panel that offers post-specific interactions: ratings, del.icio.us bookmarking, quick feedback smileys, and the ‘send related link’ function.

I might as well give it a try. I’m writing a web-based aggregator similar to bloglines but better integration with a group of bloggers.
How is a blogger going to receive those gestures? Email? Next to post, similar to trackback (trackgesture)? Is there some kind of an average score based on gestures?

Cool. Yeah I was thinking about a trackback-like setup. The blogger should be able to determine whether or not the ‘trackgestures’ get published next to the post (could a plugin handle this in e.g. MovableType?). And I guess it’d require some kind of basic repertoire of smileys or other emoticons, similar to the iChat smiley pane. I don’t know if there’s some kind of W3C-certified smiley standard out there… maybe it could use the NetLingo list (http://www.netlingo.com/smiley.cfm). And no scoring: think about the gestures as qualitative feedback. Use star ratings for the quantitative feedback. Is anyone out there working on a rating standard for blog posts? Eric??
