A quick shout from Reboot 7 in Copenhagen: it’s the first time I’ve made it to Reboot, and this has got to be the coolest social software-related event at these latitudes. It’s a lot bigger than I had expected and everything is still really laid-back. Tomorrow morning I’m going to do a little talk on object-centered sociality, and flesh out the main points of the original blog post. I’d already agreed to speak about a different topic, but those of you who’ve been commenting the post here and on your blogs, convinced me to switch. It’s awesome that there’s now a growing discussion around objects in the social software world!

Update: For a summary of the talk, see

Another update! Here are the slides. The PowerPoint version includes my speaker notes.

Fine presentation, nice, clear point – I think your focus on the object at the centre of sociality could be developed a lot – following the phenomenological insight that there is no such thing as an object without an obejctivation, in other words, it’s all about what processes are made possible by the object-actor-action relations. A balloon is not just a balloon, so we have to understand the playing/gaming to understand what a balloon is. but great to get some focus on the substantiality of what lies “between” people in social “networks”. i will get back to you concerning my “moving communities” theme on the moscow-beijing train.. so far, check out http://whatevercommunity.blogspots.com

Christian: I’m looking into it! Some of the material was borrowed from other people so I need to do a round of permission-checking before posting the slides

Even if the lame and over-used example of the self-restocking fridge is used as an example again, this is interesting news: South Korea is investing $800 million in RFID. Chin, the Korean minister for information and communication has said that…

Hi Jyri! Maybe a bit late, but for the record your presentation was great. Easily one of the best, and possibly the best, given at reboot. Gave me a, needed, framework for anlysing social networking and related areas.

Connect via books

I’ve tried a few of these social networks, like ecademy and linkedin. I’ve been under-enthused, mostly because of the sense that many people there are networking for networking’s sake. But Connectviabooks feels a little more promising. Enter the books …

Reading material for Jyri’s talk

If you’re inclined for some preparatory reading for Bloggforum, here are some links that will probably be relevant to Jyri Engeström’s talk. Jyri will be talking about “blog posts as objects of sociality.” What does that mean? It all began…
